The Lower Lid Blepharoplasty Procedure
Local anesthetic and sedation are typically administered at the start of lower eyelid surgery. The amount of fat to be removed, its position, and how loose the eyelid skin is are all factors that will influence the details of the operation. It usually takes 45 minutes to an hour for the process to be completed.
The technique involves an incision a few millimeters below the eyelash line and is carried laterally into the skin crease. The skin and muscle are lifted and three fatty tissue pockets in the lower eyelid are opened and excess fatty tissue is removed. Excess skin is removed and the skin incision is closed with tiny dissolvable sutures.
Recovering from Lower Lid Blepharoplasty
Special tape is used to support the lower eyelid area for a week after surgery to reduce the amount of swelling and bruising. Recovery is rather simple. Most patients will need around 7 days of relaxing to properly recover from their lower lid blepharoplasty. There is usually minimal bruising and swelling. Any pain you may experience can be managed with medication. The procedure will give a natural and rested look to the eyes.
As swelling and bruises fade, the results of a lower lid blepharoplasty treatment become obvious, and they will continue to improve for up to one year following the treatment.
The operation for blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids is intended to create long-term effects. While surgery cannot keep the eyes from aging, the majority of patients are pleased with their outcomes and do not need to have the process repeated.
