As a male, I was very concerned about wanting a subtle change with neck and lower face. I always felt like my neck was the only area that showed my true age. I can’t share how many friends and family commented “I can’t believe how well you healed” ! Acquaintances noticed absolutely nothing changed and not because the subtle changes but because the sutures were so unnoticeable. I had them on my temples and he almost entirely tucked around the hairline which I do believe was even moved up ever so slightly in order to cover them. The actual stitches were so tight and neat and discrete that even I did not know they were there until my wife explained to me I had them there as well as completely around my ears from front outer lobe all the way around the entire back of the ear. I even asked the doctor during my month follow up if he had actually stitched or glued the area. He clarified I was stitched and only large flesh wounds get glued to my surprise. Less then 3 months later, nobody can even pick up on any scars except behind the ears which generally takes an extended time period due to the thinness of the skin and limited blood flow since there are very few arteries in that area. I felt listened to and seen during my experience. I had very little pain (only took Tylenol after the first night) and the recovery has been very smooth. My incisions are already looking fantastic only 4 weeks out from surgery. I ended up only taking a few days off work since I work from home and was back on Zoom calls within 12 days from surgery. I’m seven weeks out from a deep plane lower face and neck lift and couldn’t be happier! I’m 67 and and hated my jowels but never thought I would actually have a facelift. Too afraid of looking weird, fake or not like myself. . Just have had regular Botox and no fillers as I didn’t like that look. I’m from out of town and met Dr. Lee when I went to help out a good friend who had this done a few days after her surgery. On a fluke I had a consultation with him and he was very personable and didn’t try to push other procedures but addressed my concerns. Almost a year later I decided to bite the bullet and had it done. His staff was wonderful and was easy to communicate with, especially as I would be coming from out of town and coordinated with my dr to get the necessary lab work and forms needed etc. The surgery went great and I stayed at my friend’s home. I took pain meds the first night only and really only felt tightness and some discomfort, not any pain. I had some very minor light bruising along my jawline along with minor swelling. After a week I got my sutures removed and was able to go for short walk outside and at the second week I was able to blow dry my hair and went out to dinner! My scars are almost all gone at this point. I had a trip to Mexico planned four weeks after, which I had booked before I decided to have the procedure done, and he said I would be fine by then and he was right! Just had to stay out of the sun of course. I’ve only received compliments from friends that knew I had it, otherwise no one can even tell, except when I show them my before photos. It takes a lot to trust your face to someone else’s hands. You do your homework about credentials and read reviews, but it is still a leap of faith when you’re talking about your face. When I first consulted with Dr. Lee, I was impressed by his personable professionalism.. He listened to me, clearly understanding that I didn’t want to look like somebody else, just a more youthful refreshed version of myself. After the first consult, there was never any pressure from him or his office staff to proceed, but when I was finally ready they were fantastic with scheduling and communicating everything I needed to know. I had a lower facelift/neck lift, upper eyelids and full face CO2. I never experienced one minute of pain following my procedures, just a little annoying discomfort the first night because of the significant bandage and the fact that I wasn’t used to sleeping with my head elevated I spent my first 2 nights in an after-care retreat because neither my husband nor I felt comfortable for the initial care (which includes drains). This was a personal choice I felt I needed. After the first night I didn’t need pain meds except Tylenol, because there was literally no pain. I followed the pre-op and post-op instructions exactly as given (stopping supplements and alcohol, starting pre-surgery medications) and I experienced no bruising at all. I understand every person will have their own individual experience, but compliance with every detail of the instructions sets you up for the best possible recovery. Again, I understand everybody will have their own individual experience, but one week post surgery, all of my sutures were removed, incisions are already on their way to becoming invisible “scars“ and 65 years of sun damage skin had already sloughed off, revealing beautiful babysoft skin that will only improve over the next few months as the real benefits of the laser kick in. 10 days after the procedures I was able to venture out to lunch and run errands, friends saying I looked better than ever and strangers never knowing just how recently I had facelift surgery. My review is going to cover a lot of aspects of the procedure that other reviewers failed to mention (it isn't easy - but it isn't hard or painful either - but it is annoying). I think it's important for people to know what they might face, to make the coping that much easier. Either way, I 100% would do this again in a heartbeat. So, first off - I met Dr.Lee online years prior to my procedure, as I was noticing laxity in my skin (jowls and a turkey neck), but he was conservative and didn't recommend a facelift at that time. I opted not to do other procedures with him as he is located pretty far from where I live. Instead I tried Morpheus at another skincare place in Woodland Hills and it pretty much destroyed my skin - making it exponentially more saggy - and aged me dramatically. So, this year, 2024, I called Dr. Lee and set up an appt. for both C02 laser and a Faceology Facelift. My in-person consult wasn't as long and detailed as others described. In fact, I saw Dr. Lee for less than 5 minutes. He was quick, but I had done a ton of research so wasn't particularly phased. I spent more time with one of the staff (but she did give some misinformation - which was later corrected by the nurse aesthetician). Basically you are NOT TO EAT AT ALL before the procedure, but in the paperwork I received she told me to have a banana or something to prevent nausea. Also, you are prescribed a Valium (which is to aid in sleeping) but my pharmacist told me not to take that in addition to the painkillers for fear of there being interaction - so just be cautious (it's not anything serious, but she strongly advised me only to take the valium if I was completely off the pain meds - I never needed to take the valium). The night before the procedure the nurse anesthetist called. She was lovely and very information and did not rush through any questions. Morning of - I arrive. I meet the nurse anesthetist in person (she is great) and another nurse was also great (she was going to be assisting with the surgery). I saw Dr. Lee very briefly as he drew on my skin areas where the cuts would be made and showed me how it would look post surgery (by pulling back my skin). He was out within a few minutes and they were taking me into surgery. The last thing I remember was laying down on a heated surgical bed and hearing some music playing that the nurses were laughing about and then - I was waking up and getting into a wheelchair to go home. The first night was insanely uncomfortable and nobody talks about this. It isn't painful at all...and honestly, with the exception of the bandage and drains, I would have had no discomfort. However, the bandage is so tight and SO uncomfortable, I didn't sleep one wink. The drains make it hard to put your head on the pillow when sleeping upright (and you can't sleep on your side). By the morning I was trying to pull the bandage off (don't do this) because it is so restricting and it starts getting annoying. Again, it is NOT painful, it's just super irritating (you'll see - but you will survive it). When I went in to get the drains removed, Cathy was phenomenal. She knew I was about to faint (I faint easily) and she immediately prevented it with making me smell alcohol pads and giving me apple juice). She cut the bandage off and removed the drains andit was smooth sailing!!!! After that, the recovery was easy - and only annoying because of having to restrict my movement. I like to exercise and not being able to do that is SUPER annoying. For about 3-4 days after you can't open your mouth easily so buy lots of softer foods (yogurt, soups, oatmeal, etc.). By the first week your neck will look very swollen and your face will start looking more like you. As far as the C02, I was glowing after a week and no pain at all with that - not even heat really (which apparently only last a few hrs after the procedure....I was probably still comfortable from the anesthesia to notice). I am still swollen at 5 weeks, but I can see a big difference. After rapid weight loss due to a knee replacement and pushing 60 I had a lower facelift/neck lift in May with Dr. Lee and I love the results. I returned to work 8 days post op and my scars were hard to find 3 weeks later as the picture shows. Both photos are taken in my car with natural light. The procedure was painless with IV sedation and I only experienced mild discomfort the following morning until the surgical compression wrap was removed. I had no bruising and only mild swelling. Tylenol did the trick for me and ice packs helped a lot when I got to the scabbing/itching phase of healing. The nerve regeneration process (zaps and tingles) was pretty unpleasant but only lasted about a week. I was pretty tired for about 3 to 4 weeks after, often needing a nap mid day. I was not up for exercising until about a month out. This is a little longer than most people report but pretty on brand for me. Now, at 6 weeks post-op, I feel nearly back to normal, though some residual numbness lingers around my hairline and under my chin and jaw. The incision lines are disappearing before my eyes with the help of the scar cream Dr. Lee provided. Before surgery, I was not quiet about planning these procedures and many people in my life had strongly-held negative beliefs about plastic surgery, facelifts in particular. Every single one of them has had a change of heart in light of my results. The downside of telling virtually everyone I know that I was having this surgery is there wasn’t really anyone who I could get a blind reaction from. But then, two days ago, I was walking my dogs and I passed a neighbor a couple of blocks away who my husband and I chat with sometimes. As I approached my 52nd birthday last year, I felt that the time has come to look for the surgeon. I've read a lot about types of facelifts and techniques, and originally I was shopping for a deep plane facelift as those tend to look the most natural and give the most dramatic results. I had consultations with 2 surgeons, and I'm sure they are great, but it just didn't click for me. They both tried to upsell and I felt like not all my questions have been answered in detail. Both were Zoom consultations, not in person. I just wasn't sure at that point, so I kept searching. I found Dr. Lee's office and I looked at the pictures and videos of his patients, and even though those weren't deep plane facelifts the results looked great, matched my esthetics and shown the kind of improvement I was looking for. I scheduled a consultation and prepared my questions. I had my consultation in May of 2022. Dr. Lee was amazing right from the start. He wasn't rushing me. He answered my questions in detail. He showed me how incisions will look, and I was picky about that. I didn't want an incision in front of the ear, and I wanted the incisions behind my ear to be well hidden as I like to wear my hair up. I also wanted a surgeon comfortable enough to offer a surgery under local anesthesia. Dr Lee didn't try to upsell. He asked me to lift my hair, looked at my face from all different angles. He answered with honesty when I asked about possibly doing also an endoscopic brow lift that my forehead is too high, and I won't be pleased with the result. He also said I don't need ant neck work yet and a mini facelift will be sufficient. I felt confident that I found the right surgeon for me. I scheduled a mini facelift with Dr Lee for March 16 of 2023. Schedule early, he is booked for many months ahead. I flew with my partner from Seattle on March 14th. On the 15th I had my pre-op consultation and the surgery was on March 16th as planned. I was kinda in twilight zone for the whole thing, especially the left side which he operated on first. I had local anesthesia, vallum and started my antibiotic a day before. After dr. Lee stitched me up I was instructed about suture and drains care, and wheeled to the car with the help of nurse and my partner. I dozed off once we arrived at the hotel. That night was the hardest night for me. I only took Tylenol for pain as I'm sensitive to medications, but it was still painful and hard to sleep sitting, so I only took short naps. Updated on 31 Mar 2023: My post surgery checkup and drain removal was scheduled for the next morning, and I couldn't wait as drains felt heavy and uncomfortable. However, Dr Lee felt like they should stay in one more day. I got a little more sleep the following night but still felt pain behind my ears and in neck where the drains were running. On Saturday morning, less than 48h after my surgery I went to the clinic to finally remove the drains. It is normally closed on Saturday but the nurse, Cathy, came in just for me, because it was better for me to keep those drains in one more day. That's how you know, you are in good hands. After the drains were removed I felt way more comfortable. I was still very swollen and had to wear a compression garment and a lot of goopy antibacterial ointment over the incisions but I threw a scarf around my head and went for a short walk with my boyfriend. It was fun and felt great after being stuck in a hotel room for 3 days. I couldn't open my mouth much at that point, soft foods only. My cheeks felt hard, my lower face stretched. Bruising and lumps on the left side. But less pain at this point. Updated on 2 Apr 2023: Swelling at its peak but less pain. I was finally able to wash my hair and that felt great. I noticed hair coming out near the stitch line though. Hopefully it grows back soon. I still stayed at the hotel a lot, but by day 5 I was going down for breakfast and out for short walks. I still could barely open my mouth. I was eating mostly soft foods, like mashed banana, papaya, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, protein shakes and some soup. I had a toast and on day 6. I started feeling some tingling in my cheeks at night but other than that, no feeling in the cut part of my face. I had some bruising and lumps on the left cheek. My right cheek looked great, no bruising at all. No pain except burning and redness behind my ears. I talked about it to the doctor when I went to remove the sutures and he said it's normal and no cause for concern. I was instructed to use diluted hydrogen peroxide to clean the sutures and then antibacterial ointment. I've been doing that since day 1. Also, on day 6 I finished my round of oral antibiotic. Updated on 3 Apr 2023: One week after the procedure I returned for a check up. Permanent sutures were removed. All sutures behind my ears were dissolvable. They started coming out the second week after the surgery. Dr. Lee examined the incisions and everything looked okay. We actually went out with my boyfriend that evening. Minimal makeup, I wore my hair down and had a great time. On day 8 we were flying back home. The pics attached were taken in a hotel just before heading out for the airport. It was actually my favorite day. A little swelling gave my face some more fullness than it normally has. I might consider some filler to recreate that look, after I fully heal. Although still numb, I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. Updated on 11 Apr 2023: I still have some swelling and numbness. A lot of tingling on the sides of the face. I'm also very uncomfortable with cold wind blowing on my face. Swelling seems to move down and is most prominent around the jaw line. I experienced some hair loss near the incision lines but I read it can happen and is usually temporary. The skin behind my ears is red and burning, feels probably worse than it looks. My earlobes are numb and elongated but it's probably just the swelling. We'll see. I feel good in general and I'm still very happy with the results and the healing process. The first week is a little tricky with showering properly, doing the cold compresses and then switching to warm, doing the ointments. You need the time to get in the routine, and rest so you can heal. Two weeks out I was hanging with people and back in life. I followed everything according to the directions they provided and now I am one month out from surgery. Expect to still hide your scars for a couple months, obscured by hair and very subtle, expect to be numb around the area of surgery (cheeks/ears) for a few months (you get use to it)––and I get more feeling back with each week. As a younger patient getting this procedure, I thought it was important to share my experience. In my research I found it rare to hear from people who would typically be told not to consider a facelift and in what cases it might be a good choice. I am 35 and since high school have always felt a bit bottom heavy in the face. I didn’t feel like I looked aged or unattractive necessarily, but I wanted a more lifted and less cheeky look. I was a great candidate for buccal fat removal at 29 with another doctor and while it was a definite improvement, it still wasn’t quite as dramatic as what I was hoping for. At the time I was told I was too young to consider a facelift. 6 years later I still had prominent cheeks that were now moving into early jowl territory. I tried filler a few times, and while I liked it, I felt like it made me looked a bit altered and I just wanted to look like the most attractive and natural version of myself. Through a ton of obsessive research I found Dr. Lee. His double board certifications and glowing reviews convinced me to book a consultation to see what his recommendations might be. I was so impressed with the entire experience. I had met with a few other surgeons but after leaving Dr. Lee's office I had that good gut feeling. I felt like he really listened and understood what I was going for. He is so kind and down to earth, and confident in the way that comes from passion and experience. The way he speaks about what he does shows a real love for it. I felt so comfortable with him and his responses reflected everything I was looking for in a surgeon. After he explained all my options, including non invasive, I decided on the surgical option of the faceology mini lift. The term mini varies from office to office, but I was told they call it a mini lift here because I did not need the full neck lift that is part of the faceology lift. This was a lower facelift where he did trim the smas (yay!), not a skin only lift. I had anxiety going in but the whole office was so wonderful. I felt incredibly well looked after by the entire team, it made such a huge difference in my experience that everyone was so sweet and caring. I wish I could remember everyone’s names from surgery day ( I was so out of it), but every single person was absolutely wonderful. The recovery was a breeze and I just slept most of the time. I would also like to note that unbelievably I had absolutely no bruising. There was a slight yellowing about a week later but at no point was there any black or blue. My face looked pristine the day after surgery, just a bit swollen. Dr. Lee has a very gentle touch and his stitches are so tiny and perfect! Two nurses in my family stopped by to see me 3 days later and they were extremely impressed with his detailed “finishing”. Follow the instructions they give you, take your meds, rest, and you will be fine! At my one week follow up I got my sutures removed and was able to go out to breakfast after the appoinment. I would have this procedure again with Dr. Lee in a second. At 9 weeks out from surgery I’m back to all my normal activities and my scars are improving week by week. I’m still getting creative with my hair styling at this stage but nothing is noticeable unless you know what you’re looking for. Everything is beautifully hidden in my hair and ears. My tragus is in tact, my earlobes are normal and beautiful, and my sideburns are very much still there! My greatest fear was having a weird sideburn or hairline and Dr. Lee took the time before surgery to show me exactly what was going to happen and how much would change (down to how many folicles!) As a type A personality I was deeply appreciative of his patience and willingness to be so specific with me. My results have improved my quality of life immeasurably. I think there’s a stigma around someone in their 30’s having this procedure, but I also beleive that may be due to the assumption that a facelift only addresses age related concerns. I think for the right candidate a facelift can improve your appearance at an earlier age as well. My confidence has gotten a huge boost and Dr Lee absolutely delivered what he promised, above and beyond. I look like a more attractive version of myself and I don’t think anyone would be able to tell exactly why. I feel like at 35 I finally have the face I wished for in college. This pretty much tells me that this doctor has such high demand & must do a great job. Instead of waiting for 2 months to get a price on chin lipo, I asked the scheduler for the approximate cost. She told me that it starts at $6500 for chin lipo. I was shocked, because even surgeons at Beverly Hills only charge $2500 for this procedure. Then I went on their Instagram, I saw a post from their account showing $4000 for chin lipo (a post from last year), so I msg them to confirm again for the actual price. They replied me back on Instagram (not sure if the response was really from the doctor himself, or someone who manages the account for him) and confirmed it is true the price went up to $6500 for chin lipo (not chin implant, chin lipo that is). I'm just happy that they're being upfront about it, which saved me a trip and the 2-month wait.VerifiedPosted on RealselfChmo3 May 2022Restored my confidence and took 10 years off my face For most of my 30s, I felt very self conscious about my neck and jawline. I avoided wearing my hair up or any clothing that might draw attention to my neck. I tried threads, Morpheus 8, Evoke, and other non-invasive, costly treatments. I also tried losing weight to the point of being underweight, just to see if that was the problem. I'd only see a subtle improvement, at best. I felt like my neck and jawline did not reflect how old I felt, how well I took care of myself, or how old I really am. Rather than continue to spend money trying additional non-invasive treatments, I decided a lower facelift and neck lift was my best option. I wanted a doctor who specializes in lower facelifts and neck lifts and found Dr. Lee through RealSelf. I liked that all of his patients had a very natural outcome. My consultation was in August and I immediately booked my surgery for March. During my consultation, I really liked that Dr. Lee asked me to look in the mirror and point out to him what concerned me about my face. He did not jump in and point out my "flaws". We only discussed what I notice and dislike about my own face. (I only mention this because I have a few things I am very critical about now as a result of unsolicited comments from other doctors. I don't need anything else pointed out to me that I might not already be aware of!) And he did not push the surgery, he was very genuine in his assessment of my features. He even suggested that I might be satisfied with the results of profound RF given that I'm on the younger side for a facelift but I really just wanted to invest in the most dramatic and guaranteed outcome, with the understanding that there would be some scarring. The recovery was relatively easy. There was a little pain but nothing the pain killers didn't resolve. The only rough parts for me were the side effects of the IV sedation and pain killers (I tend to get very nauseous) and having to take it easy for several weeks. But overall, given that my face was literally sliced open, I was surprised that I felt pretty normal after a few days. It's been a month and I still have some numbness and tightness, as well as some stinging from my nerve endings re-awakening. But nothing unmanageable. My scars are still healing so l feel it's still too early to assess those, but on one side they are already barely noticeable. Was it worth it? Absolutely. I was hoping for my neck and jawline to reflect my actual age, but I feel like this surgery took 10 years off my face. I don't cringe when I catch my face in the mirror. I feel like wearing makeup and dressing up again. It's funny that my loved ones would tell me I was beautiful and didn't need the surgery whereas I felt such contempt for this part of my face that it tainted every day of my existence. While getting this surgery didn't fix all of my problems, now I have a pep in my step. I'm thrilled with my results. Dr. Lee is an artist. When I look at myself, nothing looks alien or unnatural, it's like seeing my best memory of myself looking back at me. I almost have to pinch myself. I'm more than happy with the results and it was money well spent. My face looks less 'jowly', natural and refreshed. Dr. Lee and the entire team were so professional, knowledgable- just nice people. The recovery went very well and was much easier than that I thought it would be. The nurses will give you very detailed instructions for care of yourself before and after your procedure- so just follow all of those and you'll be great. I never experienced any actual pain and the hardest part is getting used to sleeping upright and keeping the healing gel (for the laser) on your face. I did buy a 'husband' pillow (like the kind you have in dorm rooms) and that helped a lot with the being upright. I split my ear lobe from my ear piercing ripping out. He did such an amazing job. You can't even tell I ever split my ear lobe. It actually looks better than before in my opinion with no scarring and not even any scar tissue. I was able to get my ear re-pierced shortly after and I can wear earrings again!
