Latisse Eyelash Rejuvenation: Common Questions

Do you wish you had fuller eyelashes? With the help of Latisse, you can get the luscious lashes you deserve. Latisse, a bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment for insufficient or inadequate eyelashes, making them grow fuller, longer, and darker.

While Latisse is a new treatment, it was developed after decades of meticulous research by Allergan, a pharmaceutical leader with more than 60 years of experience manufacturing eye care products.

How Effective Is It?

Latisse is quite easy to use and very effective. Latisse makes eyelash growth possible because of bimatoprost, its active ingredient. The precise mechanism of action is not yet known. However, preliminary research has suggested that eyelash growth occurs by increasing the percentage of hairs and the duration of their growth in the anagen phase. This allows the lashes to grow thicker, longer and darker.

It is perfect for treating hypotrichosis, a condition in which the patient has inadequate or sparse eyelashes. Hypotrichosis can be caused by a number of conditions including bacterial growth, mites, rosacea, and hormonal issues.

How Soon Will You See Results?

Latisse comes in the form of a topical cream that you apply to the base of your eyelashes once every day. Patients can begin to see its effects in a few weeks.

What If You Forget to Apply It for One or Two Nights?

If you miss out on an application of Latisse, do not try to catch up by applying it twice in one night. Instead, just apply the Latisse treatment the next evening as normal and make sure you keep to the schedule for future treatments.

What If You Wear Contact Lenses?

If you wear contact lenses, you need to remove them before you apply the cream. You can put them back on after a time.

Is It the Right Treatment for You?

While almost all of us want fuller, longer, and darker lashes, not everyone is a suitable candidate for the treatment. Check with your doctor and have your medical condition evaluated to see if you can go for this treatment.

Patients who have an active eye infection or irritated or broken skin on their eyelids must consider treatment before opting for Latisse. If you are using eye products meant to treat elevated intraocular pressure, you should consult with the doctor before using Latisse.

Latisse has almost no side effects. Eye irritation, skin darkening, dry eyes, and redness of the eyelids may be experienced immediately after the procedure, but these are temporary and wear off quite soon.

Is It Safe?

The FDA has done extensive clinical studies to verify the potency, identity, stability, and purity of the ingredients that go into this topical treatment. After thorough testing, they demonstrated that the product is effective and safe for the intended use, provided the patient uses it as prescribed by the doctor.
