Profound® RF

Aging often results in a decrease in elastin, collagen and moisture, which can lead to sagging or wrinkly skin. Profound® is a nonsurgical treatment that stimulates the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, the three essential elements for young and healthy skin. By creating controlled fractional injuries in the skin, Profound® RF is used by both men and women to treat a number of cosmetic concerns, including a double chin, “turkey neck” or a sagging jawline.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Profound®?

Almost any man or woman interested in reducing skin laxity around the face or neck can be a good candidate for Profound® RF treatments. Some of the most common reasons people consider Profound® include:

Sagging jawline, jowls or deep wrinkles in the lower face and neck
A double chin due to skin sagging
A desire to improve skin laxity without undergoing surgery

Profound® Treatment

Profound® uses a bipolar RF system with microneedle electrodes to create fractional thermal injuries in the skin. The device uses temperature control to help protect the skin’s surface. These microinjuries stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, all important elements that can restore facial volume and firmness of the skin and tissue.

A local anesthetic will be applied to ensure that you remain as comfortable as possible during your appointment. The Profound® hand piece is then placed over the treatment areas and the radiofrequency needles penetrate the skin’s surface, releasing controlled energy to a precise depth in the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Depending on your goals, Dr. Lee may recommend additional treatments to help you get the most out of your Profound® results. Botox® and dermal fillers are popular injectables for temporarily smoothing out wrinkles and deep creases, while Kybella™ offers a nonsurgical treatment for a double chin and may be combined with Profound® to further improve the jawline.

Downtime

While Profound® is a minimally invasive treatment, you may still experience mild redness, swelling or bruising for the first several days following your appointment. You may also notice some texture irregularities as your skin sheds some of its older layers. Dr. Lee will provide you with detailed post-treatment instructions, including skin care and sun protection.

Most people who get Profound® have a significant increase in collagen and elastin by 10 weeks post-treatment. While most are be happy with a single treatment, you may also wish to schedule additional treatments to build upon your results.
