The Lower-Eyelid Lift Is Perfect for Puffy Lids

Published on November 1, 2018

Your eyes may be the window to your soul, but if they’re surrounded by puffy or droopy lids, they’re hardly going to send the message you want. If your otherwise youthful appearance is being held back by puffy eyes, a lower eyelid lift may be the simplest solution for you.

Why Get a Lower-Eyelid Lift?

Aging causes your skin and various parts of your body to give in to gravity and become droopy as they begin sagging and your eyelids are no exception. As you get older, the skin on the lids can stretch, your muscles in the area may weaken, and pockets of fat can become more visible, giving your eye a bulging, droopy appearance. This can make you seem tired and weary, and years older than your true age!

A lower-eyelid lift is a means to a more youthful appearance, but there’s more to it than meets the eye. Also known as blepharoplasty, this procedure can also make you seem more alert minus the droopy lids. What’s more, you might even discover that after a lower eyelid lift, your vision may improve with the obstruction caused by the lower lid now gone.

As long as you’re in good health and your goal is to improve the appearance of your eyelids, you should be a good candidate for an eyelid lift. Be sure to discuss the details of the procedure and your expectations with the surgeon to get the results you want out of this procedure.

What to Expect During a Lower-Eyelid Lift

A lower-eyelid lift is designed to help remove bags below your lower lids, smooth out wrinkles, reduce any puffiness around the eyes, deal with sagging skin, and fix other visible signs of aging on the lower eyelids. Plenty of reason to sign up for a consultation! So what happens once you do decide to do this?

Depending on what you discuss with your doctor, the procedure may be done under local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or oral sedation with local anesthesia.

Typically, incisions are made on the outer edge of your lower eyelid on the inside of the eyelid or beneath your eyelashes. The cosmetic surgeon will then remove any excess fat and repositions it to give you a natural looking smooth contour below the eyelid. Any excess sagging skin is removed, the lower eyelid muscle may also be tightened. Skin glue or sutures are used to close the incisions.

The best part about lower-eyelid surgery is the results tend to be lifelong. In other words, you don’t have to worry about repeat procedures to keep up the look.

Recovery and Beyond!

While the procedure itself doesn’t take too long, you will need to plan for some help and support during your recovery period. This includes having someone available to bring you home after the surgery.

You will need to plan to take some time off work to rest and relax as you recover. During this time, you should avoid strenuous physical activities as well.

You should stock up on ice packs, gauze pads, and any medications your doctor may prescribe. You may need some over-the-counter painkillers (suggested by your doctor) to help with any discomfort after the surgery. A topical antibiotic may be recommended for use in the days after the procedure.

Once you’ve healed, get ready to face the world with your brighter looking eyes.
